The OCZ Vertex Series Mac Edition is the result of the latest breakthroughs in SSD technology. The Mac Edition delivers the incredible performance enthusiasts have come to expect from OCZ¿s premium Solid State Drive offerings with the peace of mind knowing they are tested in Apple¿s own labs. Additionally, the drives feature speeds up to blazing 240MB/s sequential read and 170MB/s sequential write and 64MB onboard cache, while delivering extended battery life, increased system responsiveness, and superior durability compared to conventional hard drives. All Vertex Series SSD drives come backed a two year warranty and OCZ¿s legendary service and support. Vertex series SSD drives are available in ample storage capacities of 30GB, 60GB, 120GB, and 250GB. MPORTANT NOTE: Solid State Drives DO NOT require defragmentation. It may decrease the lifespan of the drive. *Consumers may see a discrepancy between reported capacity and actual capacity; the storage industry standard is to display capacity in decimal. However, the operating system usually calculates capacity in binary format, causing traditional HDD and SSD to show a lower capacity in Windows. In the case of SSDs, some of the capacity is reserved for formatting and redundancy for wear leveling. These reserved areas on an SSD may occupy up to 5% of the drive¿s storage capacity. On the Vertex Series the naming convention reflects this and the 30 is equivalent to 32GB, the 60 is equivalent to the 64GB and so on.

Fast and Quiet

I upgraded my late 2008 Unibody Macbook Pro with this drive, and so far I'm very happy with it. My computer runs faster and much quieter. I'm expecting better reliability, but won't know for 5 years or so.
Since the newer Macbook Pros are designed for easy HW drive upgrades, it took only about 15 minutes to change drives. I bought a Torx T6 and Phillips #00 from Amazon when I ordered the drive.
Fast, works great

Really ! I don't feel the need to update my macbookPro since with this upgrade it's faster than ever. The installation is simple however I DON'T recommend to transfer your existing data using SuperDuper. It's not working and you get system freeze. Do an manual installation of everything you have (a little time consuming procedure) but the results are AMAZING. Boot time 30secs (from the moment you press the power on switch).
Probably this review works with every single SSD however I can tell that OCZ has the best price/features ratio. Go get it !
Super fast, but....

First of all, a couple warnings:
1. The "Mac" version of this product is exactly the same as the regular version, sans the "Mac" sticker. You may be able to get a better price by purchasing the PC version instead. [...]
2. The drive I received had an out of date firmware. It came with 1.10, 1.30 is current. If yours comes with a firmware previous to 1.30, you'll need to update it. The directions & downloads are available at the manufacturer's forums (previous link).
3. Unibody MacBooks and MacBook Pros are having some issues with these drives and the 1.30 firmware and previous. The drives periodically drop offline. Currently, it looks like most these problems are caused by iStat widgets. I've removed those from my system and it's been stable since.
4. If it weren't obvious, these drives aren't exactly ready for consumption by the regular AOL set. If flashing firmware scares you, you're best off looking for another drive, or just ordering the SSD option from Apple.
But.... the benefits.
OMG this drive is super duper fast. The speed improvements I received with the Apple shipped Samsung SSD have more than doubled with this drive! Instantly wakes from sleep, hibernates in seconds, boots quickly and apps launch on first bounce (MS word in less than 2 seconds!).
Like most SSDs, these are lower power devices and are virtually impervious to shock damage.
The estimated life on these (Mean Time Between Failures) is approximately 70 years! Try getting that lifespan out of a traditional platter based hard disk drive (which is the main benefit for SSDs for me).

Our lab has tested this SSD with the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro. We were very impressed with the speed (250+MB/s READ and 200+MB/s WRITE). The only slight problem we encountered was the tight fit in the MacBook Pro. We found some special sleds from MaxUpgrades to mount it inside the Mac Pro. TransIntl has some as well.
We did, however, find an SSD with equal performance but at a lower price: the Crucial M225.
