The OCZ Vertex Series Mac Edition is the result of the latest breakthroughs in SSD technology. The Mac Edition delivers the incredible performance enthusiasts have come to expect from OCZ¿s premium Solid State Drive offerings with the peace of mind knowing they are tested in Apple¿s own labs. Additionally, the drives feature speeds up to blazing 240MB/s sequential read and 170MB/s sequential write and 64MB onboard cache, while delivering extended battery life, increased system responsiveness, and superior durability compared to conventional hard drives. All Vertex Series SSD drives come backed a two year warranty and OCZ¿s legendary service and support. Vertex series SSD drives are available in ample storage capacities of 30GB, 60GB, 120GB, and 250GB. MPORTANT NOTE: Solid State Drives DO NOT require defragmentation. It may decrease the lifespan of the drive. *Consumers may see a discrepancy between reported capacity and actual capacity; the storage industry standard is to display capacity in decimal. However, the operating system usually calculates capacity in binary format, causing traditional HDD and SSD to show a lower capacity in Windows. In the case of SSDs, some of the capacity is reserved for formatting and redundancy for wear leveling. These reserved areas on an SSD may occupy up to 5% of the drive¿s storage capacity. On the Vertex Series the naming convention reflects this and the 30 is equivalent to 32GB, the 60 is equivalent to the 64GB and so on.

I purchased two of these to build a RAID on a relatively modest PC. The performance boost of SSD over HD is orders of magnitude; boot times are cut by atleast a third to half, login time by a half or more, and disk intensive applications are faster (Office, Email, search, etc).
The manufacturer puts out regular firmware updates to improve and add features to this drive. The most recent release improves "Garbage Collection" feature that helps keep the SSD's in peak performance. The GC is necessary due to the way flash memory works--with this type of memory, the cell has to be "erased" before it can be written which can slow things down considerably. The GC feature in this drive will perform those erases when the computer is idle.
The manufacturer also claims this feature will work in a RAID, but I have no way to confirm it. The RAID 0 configuration also seems to give a noticable boost to sequential operations. The operating system installations times on my RAID SSD was noticably less than on my single SSD. Sorry--no hard numbers, just general impressions. The bootup time is faster the single SSD configuration--about 25% less time; with HD's, it was closer to double that of SSD.
OCZ has also extended the warranty on these drives to 3 years which is longer than most HD's.
If you want to upgrade, don't waste money buying an even faster processor. Upgrade the memory and upgrade to SSD.
A few negatives:
* Price!
* Garbage Collection requires you to log-off and leave computer running overnight
* Price!
* Lots of myths, voodoo, and misinformation out there about "optimal" configuration
